Affairs of the World
Preacher: Do not entangle yourselves in the
affairs of the world
Church Member: Why not?
Preacher: Because the Word of God tells us not too
Church Member: No it doesn’t
Preacher: Yes it does in 2 Timothy 2:4
Church Member: Well that was for them, not us because we get to choose our leaders
Preacher: But Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever so that verse is just as much for today as it was then
Church Member: Well I was told by my preacher and my dad and his dad that good american christians must always pick their leaders by voting so we get a good christian leader
Preacher: Well can you point to any president in the last 100 years who has the fruits of a real believer? Also, can you show me that in the Word of God where it tells us to pick our leaders?
Church Member: No, but if they said it then it must be true because my family and my preacher would never lie to me
Moral of the story is that just because you were told something by someone does not make it true. If our beliefs and feelings do not match up with God’s Word then our beliefs and feelings are wrong.
1 Samuel 8:6-8
“But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord. And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but THEY HAVE REJECTED ME, that I should NOT reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods so do they also unto thee”
