Why Don’t We Read the Word of God?
Question
of the day….
Why
Don’t We Read the Word of God?
Hebrews
4:12 tells us this “…the word of God
is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to
the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” so it is clear that the Word
of God cuts to the very being of our thoughts and intents so could this be why
we shy from the Word of God when we are in sin or running from God? You bet it
is and I have done this myself too many times so I know that this is true, but hat
is the Word of God for?
The word says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
that the man of God may be perfect (mature), thoroughly furnished unto all good
works”, however many people only want the doctrine part but they run away from
the reproof, correction, or instruction in how to live righteousness parts!
Once again, I have been guilty of this so let’s break this verse down so we see
what it really is saying…
“ALL Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine
inspiration] and is profitable for doctrine [instruction], conviction [of sin],
correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in
righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and
privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]” and
this is why most “christians” do not read the Word of God! They love showing
off WHAT they know, but few show their “doctrine” in their daily walk. Oh, they
can fool people at church or on the phone but once you get to them know them
intimately you easily see that they are only going through the “religious”
motions because they have rotten and poisoned fruit. So what do we do now?
“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen,
and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and
will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent”… Yep REPENT
OR… I know many believe in OSAS (once saved always saved), but OSAS is taught
against in the Word of God not for so letting the Word of God purge us is
crucial because if not we will fall away!
The longer we stay away from the Word of God the
weaker we become and soon sins we once had conquered will come back into our
lives. The Word of God is our spiritual food and if we are not eating it (not
books about the Word of God, or devotionals, or DVD’s, or anything other substitute
we are using) then we will become spiritually weak and eventually spiritually
DEAD.
In closing I will post this verse I used when I
spoke on the “Fruit” in our lives last week…
John 15:2-3
“Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every
branch that bears fruit, he purges it (2 Timothy 3:16) that it may bring forth
more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word (of God) which I have
spoken unto you”
